Purpose of the J-1 Exchange Program
• The purpose of the Program is to provide foreign nationals with opportunities to participate in educational and cultural programs in the United States and return home to share their experiences and to encourage Americans to participate in educational and cultural programs in other countries.
Exchange visitors enter the United States on a J Visa. (62.1)
• The program is a cultural exchange program, not a work program and you are required to
participate in cultural activities, and follow your training plan or you can be terminated from the program.
• Eligibility: Foreign nationals who are current students in their home country or those that have *graduated within 1 year to participate in a structured guided training program who have attended an approved academic institution.
• Home country physical presence requirement (applies to some, please read)

Your stipend or wages might not cover all of their expenses and that they should bring additional personal funds- financial responsibility form required to be filled out
